I thought it would be nice to share with you a little about my favorite places in India. Today I’m reminiscing of my visits to Hyderabad. The city of palaces, pearls and Biryani, the city of Charminar, Chowmahalla and Cyber Towers—Hyderabad is a unique mélange of culture, cosmopolitanism and creativity. Every city has a tale to tell, but the one Hyderabad weaves is magical indeed!

If you want to be stunned by this magic, all you need to do is peep into the city’s undeniably glorious and iconic past. Simply walking through the narrow lanes of the older part of the city, with the Charminar towering over you, can take you back to its 400-year-old past, and the legacy of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah who established it. One of the largest and oldest mosques of India, some of the bricks of which have been brought all the way from the holy city of Mecca, the Mecca Masjid stands right here. Each street, each building, you will realize, has a story to tell. And once you have heard enough tales of yore, you can step away from the bustle of the busy streets around Charminar and Mecca Masjid and the accompanying echo of the hawker’s at Lad Bazaar, as you enter the serene surroundings of the Hussain Sagar Lake. This man-made lake with its 19-metre tall Buddha statue standing strong at the centre is now a symbol of Hyderabad. Next to the lake is the now famous Eat Street, to tease everyone’s taste buds—yet another example of how Hyderabadis express their love for food.

When it comes to food, Hyderabad is synonymous with Biryani. The art of making the best Biryani has been perfected here, whether it be the traditional Biryani of the old city restaurants and the hallmarked Biryani of Paradise and Hyderabad House. Restaurants and cafes abound in this city, one in every corner you turn. And no cuisine or food type has been left unexplored. Just a simple food tour of the city will help cover Hyderabad’s historical journey—from the heritage of the past to the cosmopolitanism of the present.

In keeping with the modern Hi-Tech cosmopolitan face of the city, is its posh and fancy areas that have developed in and around the cyber hubs of the city. Here is where some of India’s largest IT companies have their headquarters, some of the largest brands have their stores and some of the most famous Hyderabadis have their homes. Some of these famous Hyderabadis are, of course, movie stars. In fact, the Telugu film industry has its home here and the famous Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad’s version of Universal Studios, opens its doors to millions of visitors daily, helping attract more and more attention to the craft and art of filmmaking.

Art, culture, technology, music, food, film, history and heritage—all abound in Hyderabad. It has a little of everything and something for everyone. If you haven’t visited this city yet, go now. Let Hyderabad take you over with its magical charm. No city can perhaps evoke a more wonderful juxtaposition of the past and the present as this city can. So, put on your travelling shoes and let Hyderabad take over your heart. You could also connect with Samsara Verified Service Providers, 50+ Voyagers or Travel Tours to plan your getaway…
